[Opinions] Re: Zoey
in reply to a message by Anni
It's a misspelled real name. Therefore, it is not real. Zoe is a real name but Zoey is not.

BtN considers it a 'variant' and Zoey is a legitimate "alternate" spelling. Therefore, Zoey and Zoe are both real names. Just like Lyndsi and Britnee are real names, albeit unattractive and kre8tyv ones.

I strongly disagreeBeing on this site does not make it a real name. Clinton is on this site--it's still a surname. Emilee is on this site--it's still Emily misspelled. Zoey is a kre8tyve variation of Zoe, just like Lyndsi and Britnee are kre8tyve variations on Lindsay and Brittany (which are borderline legit in the first place). A "real" name is one that has history, a meaning, and a derivation, for lack of a better word. Zoe, for example, means "life" in Greek. Zoey is Zoe with a Y tacked on.I'm curious--how are Lyndsi and Britnee real names? Are they real just because people have used them before?

Well, Zoey was the 119th most popular name for girls in the US last year.

dittoI much prefer Zoey to Zoe anyways. Zoe (without the dots) looks like it should be prncd Zo as Joe is.
