[Opinions] Need help with a nickname, please!
I accidentally made a post in the "Name Facts" board instead of this one, so here I go again! My name is Margaret and I'm going to begin university in the fall. I went by a childhood nickname my entire life & hated it, so I applied to my new school as Margaret, however I am still looking for nicknames that go well with it. The thing is, I absolutely HATE all nicknames that go with Margaret! Here is a list of common nicknames for this name:Maggie / Maggy
Marge
Meg, Peg / Peggy
MadgeAbsolutely terrible (sorry if someone has this name, it's just my opinion). I was looking at this web site and came across the name Margot. By definition it's the French, short form of Margaret and it's the prettiest name I've come across that's related to Margaret. *** What do you think of the name Margot in general and as a nickname for Margaret? Also, if you know any other nicknames for Margaret, please let me know! ***Thank you :)

I like Margot, Greta and Meg. How about Megan?

I like Margot. I think it is nice but other people tend to find it snobbish.
Some other suggestions:Margaret:Rhennie
Mary
Magda
GaryI know some of them aren't typically nn's for Margaret but you seemed to hate most of the conventional nn's so I thought I would go outside of the box.

My aunt is a Margaret and we call her Penny. I doubt you'd like that, though. I love Meg. I've never been a fan of Margot. Do you like Greta?

What about Meggie as a nickname for Margaret ??? .

I love Margot, go for it!I also like Peggy and Daisy in theory, but I can see how they might be a bit too childish. Meg and Greta I love.

I love Margaret. Just go by that if your don't like the nicknames. (I don't like them much either) Other nicknames include Greta, Pearl (from the meaning) and Daisy (from the marguerite daisy) Also, go to the entry for Margaret and click on 'related names'.

Presumably...The progression would be Margaret to Margherita to Daisy. Click on Margherita. I've made the same connection myself in one of my fantasy combos, Daisetta Marguerite.

It was via Marguerite, but otherwise yep :-)

I actually love Maggie, Meg, Maisie, and Daisy as nn's for Margaret (not sure if Daisy is a legit one...just heard it before as a nn for Margaret, as well as a name on its own). Margot (or Margo, which I prefer, because Margot makes me think of maggots :-/) would be a great idea, I think. Good luck.

I love Maisie as a nn for Margaret. Margot seems to similiar to Margaret to me. I know that's generally the idea, but it's the same number of syllables and is similar sounding, so I don't think it's a good nn.

I think Margot is a nice name, though I'm used to seeing it as a full name rather than a nn. Technically, though, it's meant to be a short form/nn for Margaret, so I think it works quite well.More suggestions:
Mamie
Maisie, Maisy
Greta, Gretta
Mara
Marta
Megan

i think Margaret is a pretty name, but if you don't i understand that.Going to Margot would be pretty much akin to a whole name change, imo. They are very different in feel. But, if you like it, go for it. It may take some getting used to. i like the name Margot a lot, but i much prefer the Margaux spelling. If you're really considering a big change, what about Greta? Still means Margaret. :)

You do know that it's said MAHR-goh, not MAHR-got, right?I find it very ugly, to be honest. I much prefer just Margaret. Is that an options?Others:
Maisie
Daisy
Margie
Mara
Megan
