[Opinions] Rory
Recently I've been liking Richard nn Rory. Do you think that works? Or should Rory just stand on it's own?

I love Rory, and I used to think it needed a 'longer' name but I definitely feel it can stand on its own. I don't really see it as a natural nn for Richard (which isn't my favorite name in general; it's just dull to me) but I don't see why not. But if you don't love Richard, I wouldn't suggest using it as a full name because you feel Rory should be a nn. If nothing else, I think Rordan is the best name in which Rory could be a nn, but like I said before, just plain Rory is better. :)

I'm not a big fan of the name Richard (it is whiny to me), but I like Rory. I think it can stand on its own; I knew one, and it was fine. I liked the idea someone had the other day of Roderick NN Rory.

I like Richard a lot, and Rory's kind of ugly-cute, but it's really really hard (for me at least) to say. But Rory definitely shouldn't stand on its own, and Richard is my favorite full name for it for a boy.

I agree that it's hard to sayI can say Cory, Tori, Laurie, etc. but I find it difficult to say Rory.

I think Rory is better on it's own. If you named your child Richard I don't think the nick name Rory would stick. Plus, I don't see Rory coming from Richard at all.

While I think Rory can stand on it's own, it could also be a nice nickname for Richard. I can see the connection, and I don't think it's a stretch.Richard is just fine, and I love Rory. I don't like several other nicknames for Richard (Rich, Rick, Dick, etc.), so if I had to pick a nickname for Richard, it would be something along similar lines.

I think Rory could work as a nn for Richard, though I don't like Richard at all. I love Rory just by itself, it feels like a full name to me.

I think Rory should stand on it's own. (I like it but I prefer Ruairí) Richard to Rory is too much of a jump for me. To be honest I don't understand the need to have a "complete" name for Rory - does it sound very nick-namey to non-Irish ears? Having said that I have seen it used as a nn for Roderick in Ireland:)

I hate the name Richard but I love the name Rory. I think Rory can stand on it's own. I can't see Rory being a nickname for Richard.

I like it. I like Richard nn Rory more than just Rory - I think it seems incomplete on its own. Plus, he has more options if he doesn't like Rory, like Rich, Rick, or just Richard. :)

I prefer Rory on its own, but I can see it working for Richard (which I love). Of course, I'm ridiculously relaxed about nicknames. ;)(When it comes to more obscure nicknames for Richard, my personal favorite is Charlie.)

I don't think it's very workable. I don't know if Rory is traditionally a nn for Richard, but I think that even if it is, it's a huge stretch. It woul be like naming a boy William and trying to use Wayne as a nn.

Yeah, you do have a point. My name's Heather and along those lines my nn could be Haley. :-/

It works, but I find it a bit depressing--too reminiscent of Richard Cory for me. D: Rory stands on its own well enough, but if you love both Richard and Rory, then I could see using both.Array (loves Richard far more than Rory, personally)
