[Facts] Kiernan
by

A family I used to know named their baby son Kiernan. They said it was an Irish name. Is this a real name or just a tryndee version of Kieran/Ciarán?

Kiernan is a separate Irish surname, originally a form of
Mac Thighearnain
, "son of
Tiernan
", according to MacLysaght's
The Surnames of
Ireland
.
