[Opinions] Suri?
I love the name Suri, but do you think it is too TomKat? What do you think to the name and do you think it is still usable?

It's grown on me a bit, and I can't stand Tom Cruise, but that baby is gorgeous. :b I still find it funny that they claimed it meant "princess" in Hebrew, and the people of Israel said, 'um, no' and that it's also a type of llama, I think. :-/ I personally wouldn't use it, and I definitely think anyone else should give it a lot of thought because it's an unheard of name except for baby Cruise so there will likely always be that association. If you can handle that, or if you're a huge fan (which would be weird actually...), then go for it.
Thanks! I do think Suri is really cute but its not really because of her. I always liked hearing Surrey in England when I was there.
Thanx Everyone!!!! I think Surya is pretty.
Yes it's usable, remember celebrities do not "own" the names, they are humans just like us, but with better paying jobs [LOL]. I do think of Suri Cruise, but it's not a 'bad' thing. I happen to like Suri, and I got it of the movie Dinosaur, and I liked it before Suri Cruise came along, but that fact is they beat me to it that's all, but it wouldn't stop me from using it. I say if you like it go for it!

Suri is a sweet name. Whether inspired by TomKat or not, if used on a child now the connection would be widely assumed, I'm afraid.
I'd use it maybe as a nickname for Surya, which is a masculine name according to this site, but is one of my feminine favorites thanks to the lovely and talented Surya Bonaly.

I think it's definately too TomKat, but I agree with you and am glad you said it. I really like this name. Surrey, as in the city in the UK, is my favorite form, as it looks different. Even then, I think people would still misspell her name since it sounds like Suri. I pretty much think it's unusable, which is too bad, because I like it very much.
yes very TomKat. Too much so for me. If I met a little girl named Suri I would immediately associate her with Tom Cruise which is not something I'd want for any child, especially mine.
The meaning is pretty, so maybe for a mn. I don't particularly like it that much to begin with so I'd never use it.

I really like the name Suri, however I wouldn't use it because I think it's too TomKat. I prefer Siri, which is actually a name of a star wars character as well.
It is very TomKat to me because no one was really using it until them. If it were an established name prior to their baby, I wouldn't think that, but since they're the first time I'm hearing it, they're the immediate association. I wouldn't use it because of that.
I'm not overly fond of it anyway. It's not ugly, but there are nice names out there.
OT: Our board supports normal HTML, not the square bracket stuff. Photobucket should have the HTML code able to be copy and pasted, or you can see the IMG code in our Help section.

I think it's beautiful, although no immediate combos come to mind.
