[Opinions] Nicknames for...
Do any of you know any Jacks? If so what are their nicknames if any. We decided on the name Jack Ryan this weekend and I am so afraid that I might call him Jacky. Since I have a Hailey and and Ashley. Would Jacky be terrible if it was just me calling him that?

I know of a few baby boys/toddlers named Jack, but I've never heard anyone call any of them by a nn. I know a Jack Ryan, fn/mn, actually (it's also the name of a character in a novel/few movies...Patriot Games is one of them, why can I never remember the author? lol). I don't think it would be bad at all for you or just his family to call him Jacky. He might get embarrassed by it when he's older, but if it's just occasionally, I'm sure it'll just be a term of endearment. :b My 44 year old brother is Nicholas nn Nick, but all of us (parents & his 2 sisters) still call him Nicky constantly, lol. Poor guy. :b He really doesn't care, though.

Most of the Jacks i know don't get called anything other than Jack. He doesn't necessarily have to have a nickname. Jacky is ok anyway.

It would just be a playful type nickname. I call my Hailey (Hay Hay) and I call my Ashley (Ashy) so I just assume I would do something to Jack's name but my husband says if I am going to call him Jackie he doesn't want to name him that. So I guess I could call him JJ once in a while.

What's wrong with calling a boy Jacky / Jackie? Does calling a boy Johnny / Johnnie make him less masculine than simply calling him John? Why should it be any different for Jack? And there are Jackie Gleason & Jackie Chan to consider... :o) Jack Ryan is the main character in Tom Clancy's "The Hunt for Red October" and other novels. Jack Ryan is also the name of the Illinois GOP Senate candidate whose (now ex-) wife, actress Jeri Ryan, accused of forcing her to go to sex clubs. Just FYI.
Edited to add info on the name Jack Ryan.

Why do you need a nickname for what is in itself a nickname, none of the Jacks I know have a nickname,
You could use his initials since he is Jack Ryan you could call him JR A childs smile is worth more to me than Gold

Great choice! I have a 3 year old Jack. We don't really call him anything but Jack, but occasionaly I do slip out Jacky. I think it would be fine!

I'm not a fan of Jacky for a boy at all. Jack Ryan is a wonderful name...no nn needed.

Jack is fine enough, Jackie wouldnt be too bad but as Chrisell said with siblings with the -ey end sound it is probably too much.Anthony"All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree." --Albert Einstein"Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Er, I don't think there *are* any nicknames for Jack, since Jack is a nickname for John. Jacky is a cute pet name for a boy named Jack, but with sisters with 'y' names it would be too much.

I just don't like Jacky because it is usually a girls name. I have heard of Jacks. Which isn't bad.

Jacky isn't a girls name, it's unisex (it can be used for boys or girls).:-)
