Leary is actually a real Irish name, the anglicized from of
Lóegaire (also spelled Laoghaire, Láegaire, Loeguire, Laoire). It was a popular medieval Irish name borne by a number of historical and legendary figures and it means "calf-herd".
I really like it and am liking Valerian a lot now because of the possibility of Leary as a nickname and am glad you like it too! I also just thought of Leary as a nickname for Leander, WDYT? :)
