I love Emily, Iris and Sarah. However, if Iris is your favorite name, use IT as a first name. If you use your favorite as a middle, you'll never really hear it.

Also, I wouldn't let the popularity of a name stop me from using it if I liked it. You never can tell what name will catch on and become popular. You might pick something obscure that becomes all the rage.
