I love Maia, and it's on my personal name list. :)
I pronounce it MIE-a. If I liked the other pronounciation, I'd probably spell the name Maya, although I prefer Maia.

I pronounce the name as MIE-ah as it is in Greek and many other languages. I love the name and that is my favorite spelling as it is the closest transliteration from Greek.

MIE-a but I think you could pronounce it either way. I would spell it Maya if I were gonna pronounce it MAY-a. Its a very pretty name.

My daughter wsa going to be called Maia (it means MARIA in basque) but my husband convinced me to call her Naia instead (wanted/loved in the same language) and although I like the name she's got I much prefer Maia. You pronuance it as Maya.
The oxford dictionary of names explains that Maia was a roman goddess, daughter of Atlas. She was the mother by Jupiter of Mercury
