[Opinions] Petra??
Petra is incredibly common in Germany, and it's our number one pick, but what do you guys think about it? I can't get past the fact that it's soooo different. Honest opinions please!

A favorite! I'm shocked it isn't in use much here...Petra is such a beautiful name and obviously very uncommon here in the US, which is a big plus. It's definitely a breath of fresh air compared to the vast majority of worn out names out there, but not overly unique or weird. I also love it's history. This one is definitely a winner on my list. Let us know what you end up going with! :-)God bless!

It's all right, but I much prefer Petrina, Petya, and Piera. And there's nothing wrong with "different." :o) Yooneek, yes; different, no. ;oP

I don't think Petra is that different. I've met at least one Petra and I know one other person who's considering it for their child. I like it.

I don't much care for Petra. I don't hate it, but I'm very conscious that it's Peter with the consonant and vowel swapped around to feminise it. It seems a bit contrived. In Germany it will be pronounced more like Pay-tra, which is nicer and probably why it's more popular there imo.

I knew a girl called it. Dislike the name heaps, as mum also used to have a pet goat called Petra!

This is on my favorites list. I didn't know it was popular in Germany, but that makes me like it better! Good name.

No one really uses it much in a America. Is it Italian? It's kind of neat.

You'd think; it kind of has that Italian vibe to it.

Hi there! I lived in Austria for a while so am also familiar with the name. To tell the truth, I dislike it. I find the majority of German girls names to be rather unattractive though, can't help it! Even though I'm quite used to Petra, for some reason being used on an American kid it makes me think of a character in a computer game or something. People would also probably pronounce it PETT-ra or PETE-ra. The name certainly isn't bad and it is nice that it's a bit different in the US (I'm assuming you're in the US or an English speaking country, anyway). Good luck! Do you have a middle name chosen?

I know a girl named Paetra (PAY-tra) and I think I like the sound of that a little better than I like the sound of Petra. But they're both cute names.
