Ruari I'm not sure about, but I suspect it's pronounced "ROOR-ee", like brewery without the B. I know a Ruairidh and it's pronounced that way :-)
I think...
That any man old enough to be somebody's father is waaaay too old to be still be called Dougie. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard of ANYBODY being called that! *makes a face*

Lol
I hate Dougie / Douglas too but unfortunately it's quite popular here. Not so much for babies but for guys my age (20) and as young as ten. In fact, my sister would've been Douglas had she been a boy. (As a girl she is Louise, which can only be better.)
*Makes an even worse face*

Here in the US, it's pretty rare to see a Douglas even as young as you. They tend to be over 35, I'd say. And they are ALWAYS Doug. I tend to havea pretty strong stereotype of what a Doug is like, I picure him as very macho (to the point where you begint o suspect him of being a phony) with a terribly smug attitude (Doug the Smug) and an over-inflated sense of his own importance.
I worked with a Doug who was *exactly* as I've described. He thought he was God's gift to women and never tired of trying to impress us. The fact some of us were married or attached didn't discourage hia bit, he just would not back down. I thik the boss called him ina couple times, and I know for a fact that one girl's husband threatened him pretty seriously, but it didn't faze him. That thick football-hero skull just didn't let in any sense. lol

Douglas's may tend to be older in the US, but I only know of two and they are both high school / college students. One goes by Doug, and the other by Douglas.
