[Opinions] Desmond
It's under serious consideration, after being suggested here.
Older brother is Fletcher Isaiah.
A girl will likely be called Penelope Acacia (nn Nell).
So, Desmond....WDYT?
Is it too girly?
Is it or will it be too popular?
Does everyone only think of LOST?
Do you like any NNs like Dez or Dezi, or do you think that makes it girly?
Any mn ideas?
Thanks to one and all!

Desmond is my second favorite boy's name of all time.
I fell in love with it as a child; my parents had a friend named Desmond who went by Des. Also, the Beatles song goes through my head. It isn't girly in the least. Like Array, I equate it with Edmund, sound wise. Both have a very sturdy, masculine sound to my ears.
Desmond Peter (my top two names for a boy)
Desmond Piers ("peerce")
Desmond Timothy
Desmond Malachy ("MAL-uh-kee")
Desmond Patrick
Desmond Laurence
Desmond Finn
Desmond Thomas
Desmond Elias
Desmond Emmanuel
Desmond Charles

Explanation why I wonder if Desmond is too feminine...
I went to college with a girl whose name is Desmond Renee, and it doesn't seem out of place or manly.
When I mentioned Desmond to my cousin, she said she thought it was girly, especially with the nn Dezi.. (She knows the same girl I do, though...)
As for the NNs Dez, Des, Dezi od Desi....they somewhat remind me of the NNs for Desiree...
Also, you have to admit that Desmond has a very "soft" sound to it. I think it's a very pretty name, and that adjective alone lends itself to the feminine side of things.
I love the name; I just want to assess all aspects of it, including potential playground teasing if others think of it as "girly".

I have a boyish name, and yet no one would ever say my name is very feminine, yet it suits me, if you undetstand what I'm saying...
but I don't think many people would associate Desmond with being feminine, just as there are boys and girls called names like Jordan. Dezi is just as feminine as Eli, which is a commonly used boys name IMO

I think Desmond is a good name suitable for any age.
Girly? I don't understand how this can be girly.
Will it be popular? I don't think it will come to the top of the charts very soon, and I agree with Array's reply on this.
I don't think of Lost!
Dezi is a cool nickname, as is Des. How about Mond is you're so afraid of it becoming feminine?

Who comes to my mind(and I'm a "lost" fan) is Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Surely a fine role-model.
So, Desmond....WDYT? I think it's really handsome, though I don't think I'd ever use it myself.
Is it too girly? Uh...no? That's like asking if Edmond's girly, IMO--it just doesn't compute.
Is it or will it be too popular? I think it's a lesser Elliot, of sorts. Same kind of trend (the intellectual male name with a sheen of the old-fashioned, a la Henry, Julian), but lower on the charts. Make of that what you will.
Does everyone only think of LOST? No. I think of Desmond and Molly in "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da."
Do you like any NNs like Dez or Dezi, or do you think that makes it girly? Was Desi Arnez girly? That answers the question, far as I'm concerned. You seem rather preoccupied with the possibility of this name somehow sounding feminine.
...I'd spell them Des and Desi, though.
Any mn ideas? Desmond Arlo, Desmond Christophe, Desmond Julius, Desmond Terrence, Desmond Quincy, Desmond Wilfred, Desmond Craig, Desmond Rene, Desmond Gregory, Desmond Elias, Desmond Elijah.
