[Opinions] Petra?
Hey Guys,
What do you think of the name Petra? Boy or Girl? The reason I am asking is because I went to Romania and there was a little girl named Petronella and I loved her name, but I don't think it is an USA friendly name, I don't want kids to make fun of her, so I was thinking about just Petra.. WDYT? THanks, KJ

Definitely girl. I think Petronella would be fine in the US, but I do prefer just Petra.
Petra is all girl to me. It reminds me a bit of the old Christian rock band, but I've also heard it here and there as a name (only on girls, btw) and I do like it. I met a little girl whose father's nn was Roc (I forgot his given name) and so her parents named her Petra "after" him, which I thought was cute. :)
I absoulutly LOVE the name Petra! It's a beautiful, underused, place name. It's 100% girl IMO.
All girl, Petra is a gp for me as I'd never use it but its cute

Petra boy or girl?! I didn't knwo this could possibly be unisex ;) It's all girl to me. Petronella is my mum's official fn, but she's called "Elly". I think Petronella "Petra" would be good, with all those creative spellings and random weird names, I don't think Petronella would be that much of a problem :)
I see it as a girls name, but I have seen it used on a boy (he was Czech)
Petra is a feminine form of Peter and I have never seen it used for a boy so it is totally girl for me
Petra is of course a girl name. I know a Petra, she really pulls it off. Thumbs up.
Petra is all girl to me. It's pretty, and I think the US would be fine with it, especially since we've been exposed to the name in celeb culture (a model, I think?). Petronella is nice, and it has the popular -ella element, so I think people could warm to it. It's not my style, but I wouldn't mind seeing it on someone else.
Petra is deffinately a feminine name and it's so sweet and pretty to me. Petronella is also nice but is a little bit long and unheard of in the USA. If you like Petra better I would deffinately use that or you could name her Petronella and use Petra as the name she's generally called or something else like Nella, Ella, Petro, or Ronnie as a nickname.
I hope this helps.

Petra is all girl. No question.
Peter is my favorite boy's name, so Petra's an easy love for me. I also like Petronella; the nn Nell is so sweet. But I agree that Petra would be easier to live with here in the U.S.
Have you begun to think about mn possibilites?

A pretty ecclectic list, but which I hope you'll enjoy. Sometimes a rhythm appeals even if a particular mn doesn't grab you.

I'd say it's for a girl but be careful with this name, in spanish it means "nosy" and in the us many kids speak spanish....
Definitely feminine, and it's a name I happen to like quite a bit. When I first came across it, I didn't like it because it reminded me of the word "petrified" but it has since grown on me.
I think it'd definitely be girl. I associate it, though, with Petrol.
