[Facts] Re: Meaning and Origin of "Carrington"
in reply to a message by Dick Wolfe
As with many trendy "feminine" names, this name is taken from a surname. "Carrington" means "the town of Curra's people" (referring to a person who came from that town), and is a name borne by several small towns in the counties of Cheshire and Lincolnshire in England.

The Carrington was an artist at the turn of the last century as far as I recall, an Englishwoman whose first name was Dora and who very sensibly used her ln for professional and social purposes.
Lord Carrington was the Foreign Secretary in Mrs Thatcher's British government; his family ln was Smith.
