[Opinions] Mallory

I think only certain people can pull that name off.
I really like the name, but wouldn't use it because of the meaning. Call me superstitious, but I'd be afraid that naming my little girl that would be unlucky!
It's a male name to me, simply because it's derived from the male form of the French word meaning "unlucky, unfortunate". (French, unlike English, is a gendered language. That's why we say a man with yellow hair is a "blond", but a woman with yellow hair is a "blonde".)
I like Mallory's sound, but it's, er, unfortunate meaning is a big drawback. (And it doesn't have the benefit of timelessness that Claudia or Cecilia have.) Also it sounds surnamey to me.
Overall, it's nms but I wouldn't mind it for someone else's child... as long as that child was a boy! :-p

It's very 1980's to me, I guess because of the character on Family Ties. I have known a few babies/little girls by this name since then, but it still feels dated and also unattractive imo. :(

I like it. I'm not trying to be rude but the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the name was ducks. But after erasing that image I said it out loud and thought hmmm sounds nice. Blah though I'm just warning you this name could tend to cause alot of mentions of ducks in your childs life. Or maybe I'm just a weirdo. *_*

I like the name itself, but I wouldn't use it because of the meaning. It's not even the fact that the meaning is negative, but rather the fact that the negative Latin root has been heavily incorporated into our language and even more heavily incorporated into languages such as Spanish and French that are at least somewhat familiar to many Americans. But I give Mallory credit for having real historical roots; this is not another Jaylynne. I think a bad meaning is better than meaning nothing.
It's OK. Not a favorite, but I don't find it horrible.

It's close to "malheur", "unhappiness", and it has a bad meaning...

I just don't prefer the Mal- names. Their Latin root is "bad" or "negative" like as in malfeasance or malfunction. Think of this...what person would like to know that their given name has a negative meaning?!? Although it has a pretty roll on the tongue, I just can't get past the meaning.
