[Facts] Re: Deva
in reply to a message by Nana
As a personal name in Slovakia, the origin is from the Slavic for 'maiden', also used for the Virgin Mary.In Sanskrit Deva means 'god', Devi being the feminine form 'goddess'. It is used in personal names as an element, such as Devdan or Devdas, but not as a name in and of itself traditionally or in modern times by Hindus. There are other possible origins, the Dacian 'citadel', the Latin 'holy place', etc. but none would apply to its use as a female given name in Slavic languages.cheersDevon
