[Facts] meaning of "Boaz"
On this website, Boaz (the husband of Ruth, from the Bible) is defined as "swiftness". It actually means "strength is within him", (bo = in him, az= strength) and in Hebrew is spelled BET-VAV-AYIN-ZAYIN (although some people leave out the vav.) My Israeli boyfriend is named Boaz, and it certainly helps him stand out in a crowd. (On our first date, the restaurant manager mistook his name for "barf".) Incidentally, he always asks Americans what their names mean, even though most of us don't know-- Israelis are always named with an eye to meaning.

I appreciate your help in the meaning of Boaz...
There was no j in Hebrew or Greek but the j was the last letter put in the English alphabet in the 1600s.
John in the original is Yahchanan which kept the name of Our Creator Yahweh...yah. This was replaced in the lab 2611 upon its release. This the true name had meaning to it. For example The messiah was Hebrew and his name was not Jesus Christ but Yahshua Messiah which means Yahweh(our Creator) will save their people from their sins. Constantine at the Council of Nicea actually chose 2 gods for his kingdom which was Hesus(Druid god)(Khrishna mithra god) which later in the 16th century the letter j was the last letter put in the English alphabet which changed it to Jesus the replace the name of our messiah Yahshua and replace it with the 2 gods Constantine combined to make one god that everyone would worship. This was incorporated and put in the version of the KJV and the deception began. The names were replaced like Yahweh's name replaced with lord god even the apostles name like Yeremyah which means Let Yahweh lift up instead it was replaced withJeremiah.
thank you
Praying in the name of Jesus Christ, God's only Son holds more power, as He is the one who intercedes for us, day and night before God, as the High Priest.
The other relevant Hebrew word is goel, meaning 'kinsman redeemer.' To fit all the scripture prophecies foretelling Christ, the redeemer had to be a close relative to the person being redeemed (bought back), which is why Jesus had to be fully man, descended from Adam and Eve. The book of Ruth is a picture of this goel relationship. The main characters in the book are models/types/pictures of the kinsman redeemer arrangement: Naomi (meaning pleasant; also later called herself Maara, meaning bitter) is a model of Israel. Ruth (meaning gift of God) is a model of the gentile church. Boaz (meaning strength is in him) is a model of Christ. The unnamed nearer kinsman is a model of the law, which could not save us. Interestingly, Martin Luther did not know this and saw nothing from God in the book of Ruth. He wanted it removed from the canon of scripture, but God made sure Luther didn't get his way, and preserved His Word.
Amen Kevan, The Book of Ruth is the Beautiful Story how Ruth the moabite ( gentile) gets Redeemed by the Jewish Boaz was a type and Shadow of our Lord Jesus Christ, redeeming of Gentiles for his glory and praise. I appreciate your sharing an expounding on the topic of the meaning of a Boaz and the Hebrew word for Redeemer goel.
Also Bethlehem which means House of Bread is the same place where our Lord Jesus Christ was born and the same place that Naomi and her husband Elimelech fled from in the time of famine... How interesting in the time of famine the left Bethlehem, (the house of bread) which is the same thing we do when in the time of our trials we leave the house of God.

Are you still together?
Perhaps an equivalent phrase in English would be "pillar of strenght" as a matter of fact one f the pillars in the ancient temple was named Boaz.
That's irrelevant to the meaning. Apparently Boaz is only used as a name, and has no related words in Hebrew, so has no verifiable meaning. There is a possibly related word in Arabic that refers to swiftness in relation to horses, but that seems to be disputed. Several other suggestions have been made, but there is no consensus. It's probable that like Moses and Miriam it is ultimately not a Hebrew or even Semitic name at all, and it is thus futile to look for a Hebrew meaning (this is not unusual, in any culture at any time, just as today, it is not uncommon for people to freely use names from other languages).

Maya,
On the Biblehub website, it uses Strong's Exhaustive Concordance and Brown-Driver-Briggs Concordance. I think this helps you see that Boaz's name probably does mean something like swift and strong since Jewish people today attribute it to mean strength, the root word also comes from swiftness/quickness and how Boaz is the name for the pillar in front of the temple. It makes sense to how quickly Boaz married Ruth in the Bible. Once she pointed out how he was the Kinsmen Redeemer for their family, he got it settled in court that day! It's interesting that the pillar to the Temple is named after him since a pillar holds something up and through him, King David and Jesus were born... very interesting!!!

Ruth and Boaz are clearly a type of Christ and the church!
