[Opinions] Re: Ariella (plus a note)

I think mariej2 was just pointing out that Renee is the proper feminine form. You could name a girl Rene, but that doesn't make Rene a female name.
Personally I think Rene for a girl looks uneducated or poorly thought out, like you didn't know the feminine form. The names are pronounced the same, so I don't see the point in not using Renee for a girl.
Shannon (who knows there's an accent on the first 'e' in Renee but can't put it there with this keyboard.)

I was just trying to explain that it didn't matter if it were feminine or masculine. I thought mariej2 made it sound like Renee was the 'proper' and only form you should ever use on a girl. That's just the was I interpreted it.
Sorry if I get anyone angry about it.

I agree
René is the masculine form, Renée is the feminine form. If you don't know the rule, it's the same as with fiancé/fiancée; one "e" on the end is masculine and two is feminine. A girl named René would probably get weird looks if she ever traveled to a French-speaking area.

I think French-speaking people have far better things to do with their time than give a foreign girl named Rene "weird looks". Despite living in Scotland where Mc- and Mac- surnames are hugely popular, accounting for about a quarter of surnames, if I met an American girl named McKayla I wouldn't give her a "weird look". I'd know fine well it was a cultural difference. I might not like McKayla - indeed I don't - but it wouldn't baffle me and it certainly wouldn't cause me to be rude and give someone a strange look.
