[Facts] Re: Angia and Henri as Jewish Polish names?
in reply to a message by Miss Claire
Probably Moshe Hirsch would be Henry, just because of the H initial. Ignoring the Moshe as 'too Jewish', since immigrants typically want to merge with the wallpaper, a popular English H name would look attractive when he needed to change.
Angia totally baffles me! I could have made a rather trite Angia = angel = bright object in the sky = Esther, especially if she died young ... but not if she died too young. (All those sisters, and not one of them a Chana! That would have worked ...) How very interesting!

I thought of Hannah too! But there's no Hannah... As for Esther, Angia survived WW2 and emigrated to America, but Esther died in 1872 in Poland, so in fact I would need to know exactly which sisters were still alive after WW2. Mmmm. I lose tracks of Breindel after she graduates high school in 1871, Miriam Shaindel is probably dead by 1899 since she has a niece named for her, I lose tracks of Baila Ruchel after she registers her marriage with her husband in 1893 (17 years late, but yeah LOL). I will ask my grandad, maybe he remembers more about them.
Thanks for your help!
