If you did use it as a nickname, I wouldn't spell it Rhett - it seems contrived that way. I'd just use Ret, Rette, or whatever corresponds to the full given name. Jarrett, Barrett, Everett etc. come to mind, though I don't think Rhett as a nn seems natural and spontaneous like nns should be (imo).

I see Rhett as a formal name - not as a nickname. Anyway, as Kappeash said, Garrett could work. But, I don't like the idea of the formal name decision revolving around a nickname.
