It sounds like tamarind, which if you do not know already, is a fruit native to Africa. It is used in a number of different ethnic cuisines. Maybe your name is a version of this word, or from some common root word. It could also be a play on Tamsin, or a combination of Tammy and Erin.

The tamarind is native to Africa *and* Asia . . .
The name is from two Arabic words literally meaning "Indian date". And the South American monkey is a tamarin, not a tamerin.
