I think you can at least rule out German. (Swiss) German is my native language, and I can tell you that I never heard about a German name Amara.

Hi! Yeahhh, I thought that was a bit weird as I speak German too (Austria). The first web site I went to said Amara is German and I thought, "HUH?!?"
