[Opinions] Dorian and Lorraine
What do you think of these two names? Dorian was a favorite a while ago. I forgot about it for some time, but have recently started to love it again. Wilde's character Dorian Gray obviously wouldn't be the greatest namesake, but the name sounds handsome and gentle to me regardless. Lorraine has always been a favorite mn, but I hadn't considered it as a first name until now. WDYT? Feel free to be brutally honest.
Thanks! :-)

I absolutely love the name Dorian (despite Dorian Gray, who, I agree, is not a great namesake) but I don't really feel the same about Lorraine. And if you're considering them for a sibset, I think Lorraine sounds a bit southern and trendy, while Dorian sounds classier. So I personally dislike the name Lorraine, but it's not terrible.

I dislike Lorraine, but Dorian is the name we're using for our baby. Like you, it was name I loved for a long time, it disappeared for a while and about a year ago, we decided to use it if we had another son. I think it's a very elegant name, one I could picture a real academic having - which is why I think it goes well with Tobias and Phinehas, even though we're breaking the 's' theme, which was unintentional anyway. ;)

I don't care for Dorian (and not for any associations, as I don't let that bother me). I think it's a weak sounding name - too feminine, and not strong enough. Lorraine is becoming a new favorite of mine (it's competing with Loretta). I think it makes a better first name than middle name, but it could go either way.
I would suggest Dorian Matthew, Donna Lorraine, and Lorraine Francesca.

Dorian's a name I really can't imagine using, simply since Dorian Gray made a huge impact on me when I read the book. The tale is the reason I love the name Basil, though; he was such a good person and I loved him for it.
Lorraine is a name that I really, really like. It makes me think first of Lorraine McFly in Back to the Future, oddly enough. But she was a fox in that movie, so I guess it's okay. ;) Really, though, I think it's a lovely name. It's retro cool, you can point out that it's a place name if someone complains that it's unhip, and it has some distinctively different choices for nicknames. I totally like Lori better than Rainey, though--keep the vintage feel right on coming.

"Back to the Future"...
Back to the Future is where I probably first heard the name Lorraine (of course, I was a mere tot at the time, so I could've cared less ). It was probably after I bought the DVD set of the three movies that I was reacquainted with the name, after not hearing it for such a long time. I actually know no one with the name.
