Help[Opinions] Anne of Green Gables names + pron. question
For many years my favorite book has been "Anne of Green Gables" by Lucy Maud Montgomery, and I equally love the names bestowed on the characters. I would even consider naming a daughter after this book. I love either Anne or Diana, even without the Green Gables connection. Which would you pick, and what are your general thoughts on both names?
Also, does anyone like (or even prefer) the name Marilla? I've always wondered why it isn't used more often - does it sound unattractive? Does it have any negative connotations?
Last but not least I've started to wonder lately how Mrs. Rachel Lynde's last name really is pronounced. lynn-dee? lind? lye-nd?

Avonlea is my favorite name from the Anne books. Even though it is not the name of a person I would still use it on a girl. I would also use Gilbert on a boy.

I love what Diana named her daughter- Anne Cordelia.

Anne Of Green Gables is my favorite story of all times! I am originally from the east coast of Canada and have visited all the tourist-y Anne places there, which was so fun! Both the names Anne and Diana are pretty and for someone who knows the books they have a special warm connotation but otherwise I find both names are a little outdated today! Like others mentioned Anna may be a nice substitute, Marilla is an uncommon name from the book...And Rachel's last name was just pronounced LIND...

I think Gable could work as a girls' middle name, but then I'm a little weird lol ...

When I was little I had the audio tapes of "Anne of Green Gables", and I'm pretty sure Lynde is simply pr'd "lind" :-)

I think Gable is kind of cute, too. :b My mother has said she thinks it would be cute on a little boy (I'd be afraid people would think my child couldn't pronounced Gabriel, lol), but then again, she's always loved Clark Gable. :) I saw a woman on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy named Gable. Oddly enough, her boyfriend was named Lawson Clark, so if they got married, she'd be Gable Clark. lol
I like Diana and Cordelia. I never cared for Anne, thought it was plain, though I love the character, too. But my mother's name is Shirley, and I used to think a hyphenated mn name of Anne-Shirley would be cute. Maybe a little much, though. :b

I prefer Anne over Diana but neither as really my style. Diana seems 70s and a little outdated to me, and I don't like the nn Di because it sounds like die. not the best connotation. :o)

Yay! I love Anne of Green Gables too. I believe Anne may be my favorite literary character. I would probably pick Anne if I was going to name someone after a character from the series, but I do think it is a plain name. I believe Rachel Lynde's last name is pronounced just "lind," or at least that's how they pronounced it in the movie.
