I like Ben. I think it could stand alone, but I prefer it as a nn for Benjamin or Bennett (that spelling).
Isadore and Isadora are okay, but they remind me awfully much of the phrase "is a door", and that would likely bring about teasing on a RL child. Nice character name, though. I agree, it does sound 'strong' as a girl's name, but a little feminine for a boy...which is not a bad thing! Two of my favourite boys names atm are Robin and Clare.
