When I was born, my sister, then three years older than me could not pronounce my name, Christopher, properly. She referred to me as Kifferfer. My (9 years older) mentally handicapped brother abbreviated it to Kiffie and that is what I have been called since then.I thought this name was unique and intrigued to find other "Kiffies"

Nicknames aren't always abbreviations - perhaps it just suits the person. My mother-in-law, always known as Bunty, was officially Edith Elizabeth.

That said, Kif in South Africa is a slang term for: Fine, great, good idea - as in: Let's go to the movies. Kif! But in Germany it seems to be a slang term for marijuana.
