The only one I'd use myself is Pallas for a girl. The others are cool but don't work on real people (especially Mercury and Isis)._____________________________________________________________________"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true."Elinor

I wouldn't use Mercury, just because it's a metal and that's the first thing I think of. I'm not too fond of the others, but out of them I prefer Isis.

The only one I like is Pele, but to me that should be a guy's name - like the soccer player

Mercury - I have a hard time seeing this as a name on an actual person. I think of a planet, a heavy metal and a car.Isis - like it
Pallas - I like it a lot
Pele - nms. It makes me think of the soccer player
Sappho - I don't care for the sound of the name but I also think there's a potential for teasing.
I'm too lazy to think of a clever signature.

Yes! I love Mars, too. Thanks, I am always looking for good "refreshing names" to put on my list of old, stale favorites. I'm going to put Mars on there and see how it fares. I knew a kid named Aries once, and it was a very cool name as well.

I have a friend (female) named Mercury. I dislike the name intensely for both boys and girls, although I'd prefer it on a boy if needs be.Isis is okay, although it does have very strong connections with the goddess...
Pallas just sounds like "palace", and I don't like it (although it looks quite nice).
I actually like Pele quite a bit (for a boy only), as I know two people with this name (although one is pronounced PEE-lee, and comes from a Danish name, not the Hawaiian one).
Sappho is quite nice (both the name and the person). It sounds good, and it's actually a great namesake imo...her poetry is gorgeous. However, it is connected so strongly with lesbianism (lesbians used to be called Sapphists) that I don't think it would work in RL unless one lived in an exceedingly openminded community (such as the one where I live) where people wouldn't have negative stereotypes of lesbianism, and would understand that the name honored a poet, not a sexual identity.~ Caitlín

Hmm. That's interesting information on Sappho. I saw that she was from Lesbos, but I didn't realize that people would connect it that strongly. Definitely something to consider! This doesn't bug me, but I can see the potential for teasing would be very great. It's too bad, such a cute name...

Well, then again, I'm not sure if MOST people WOULD connect it that strongly! I'm particularly interested in Sappho and have taken it upon myself to read her poetry, but it's unlikely that most people would have read it. I really don't know whether or not most people would connect her with lesbianism...it depends on education levels, probably.~ Caitlín

I actually like the paganness of it :) I am not a Christian, and I enjoy the history, mythology and romanticism of many non-Christian names. I guess I agree about Sappho; I didn't realize that people associated it so strongly with Lesbianism, but two out of two replies mentioned it! Talk about teasing potential.
