What do you think of the name Stephanie? The name would be in honor of my dad, who practically raised me and my brother alone, and, apart from my husband, was/is the most important person in my life. My husband dated a girl named Stephanie for about 5 months, but he called her by the nn Kitten. We both love the name and agree that the positive association outweighs the negative. I thought the name was very 1980s but was pleased to see it's been in the top 500 since 1900. Any suggestions on middle names? If you don't like Stephanie, could you suggest another girl's name begining with the letter "s" that would go with a ln similar to McAnne. Have you considered using a name of someone your husband dated, no matter how long or breifly? All advice appreciated and needed. Thank you.

I like the name Stephanie, and I don't think it's dated (for that matter, I don't think any name is dated). I went to grammar school with two Stephanie's, and I know one Stefanie (16-years-old) and one Stephanie (18-years-old). Since it would be honoring your father, then that seals the deal for me! I think it's great to honor the parent(s) parent(s). Also, I don't see a problem with using a name the a significant other's previous partner was named. I find that rather childish, actually. If you like/love a name, another person named it shouldn't stop you from using it.

Honestly, Stephanie is nmsaa but I think you should go with it especially since you and your husband both love the name and the name means something to you. I can't really think of other female Stephan names other than Stephania. If it doesn't bother you that it's the name of your husband's ex I don't see a problem. Like you said, he called the ex Kitten so he probably doesn't really associate Stephanie with the ex too much. Either way, it's most important how you two feel about the name not how others feel about the name.

I really like the name Stephanie. It's so much classier than the current overflow of Madysons and Kayleigh's. True, it's very 80s, but that shouldn't stop you from using it. It's a classic name. If it doesn't bother you that your husband once dated a girl with the same name, that shouldn't stop you either

I'm sorry it reminds me of my cabbage patch kid from the 80's. I love the idea of honoring your father but I don't understand the association. Is his name Stephan?

I would go with it then. I think it's more important to have that family connection and have that meaning behind it. I liked Stephanie in the 80's obviously because I switched my cabbage patch kids name to it from Leona. However, now I just can't get it out of my mind. That's my association.

I've told my friend I like Mia for a girl and she said that was her cats name. It doesn't matter what someone elses association is. It's what you and your husband like.

I love this name. Some people think it's "dated" from the 80's but I think it's so pretty and feminine. My friend had a Stephanie in 2002-otherwise my husband and I would have definitely considered using it for a daughter. We both really like it! I think it would be wonderful to honor your dad this way!
