I like these names...Maggy -- prefer the spelling Maggie. I don't know why I like this name...I don't love it, but I think it's cute. At the same time it sounds more like a NN to me, but I'm not fond of Margaret
Grace
Antoniette -- prefer spelling Antoinette...I don't ever see myself using this name but there's something about it that I like
Jennifer Ann -- I also like & usually prefer the spelling Anne
Ann -- see above
Julie
Catherine -- prefer spelling Kathryn
Gracemary -- I like these as separate names...Grace & Mary...but not together
Deborah -- prefer spelling Debra
Kathryn
Julie
Mary
Rose

A lot of old-fashioned or '50s names here! I love most '50s names for their "outdated" sound, so I'm very happy with this particular collection. :-DI like:
Jeanne - Only like if it's pronounced the French way. Otherwise, I prefer Jean, nn Jeannie
Grace
Carolyn
Lisa - As a nn for Elisabeth
Cynthia
Marjorie
Rosa
Jennifer Ann - Prefer Anne
Lorraine Ann - Like both names, but not together. Prefer Anne
Julie Lynn - Prefer Lynne or Lynna for a girl
Martina
Catherine
Janet
Paulette
Leslie - Prefer Lesley for a girl and Leslie for a boy. Prefer Lesley as a mn for a girl
Lynn - Prefer Lynne or Lynna for a girl and Lynn for a boy
Gracemary - Prefer Grace-Mary
Marion - Prefer Marian for a girl and Marion for a boy
Eileen
Mina - Prefer as a nn
Roslyn - Prefer Rosalyn or, even better, Rosalind / Rosalinda
Ada
Deborah
Candace - Prefer Candice, which is actually closer to the possible derivation of canditia "white"/"incandescent"

Ok, I'm not the only one who noticed. :)I don't dislike the names, I just found it strange, albeit interesting, that there would be so many "outdated" (apparently a bad choice of words--but you used it yourself) names and nn's as formal names used on babies born in 2004-2005. Personally, I like a lot of the boys' names, such as Peter, Mark, Ian, David, Alfred, Arthur, and George.

It's all about contextMe: I love most '50s names for their "outdated" sound...
You: ... do all of the babies [in your area] have outdated and nickname-y names?I was clearly saying "outdated" as a compliment. Your phrasing wasn't so clear on that matter--it could've been a compliment, an insult, or an indifferent-but-curious question. It was hard to tell online, which is devoid of facial expressions or vocal intonations which communicate so much in RL.Again, it's sometimes hard to write in a way in which you won't be misunderstood. Specific words and "I" terms help a lot: "I'm curious...", "I have a question...", etc.Miranda

Do they only list fn's where you live?
And in your area, do all of the babies have outdated and nickname-y names??

The way my paper works, is that Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday they have a baby announcements supplement, where the names are just first names (so if there's two names listed, it's a double-first name). Thursday is the official birth announcement day, which means there may be names that were printed from the rest of the week, but now with middle names, and new announcements ones. On Thursday's, they also list the parents. During the other days, they only list the hospitals and/or midwife.I have noticed the nicknames a lot, too, but I don't agree with your "outdated" comment. What's outdated to you is fresh to others.

And this was rude tooI'm sorry, but it is.Many of those names are not outdated to me at all. And I happen to like most outdated names.Miranda

I was just asking a question (or two). She posts BA's a lot, and I was wondering why there were usually only fn's and she politely answered my question.
Sorry I accused some of the names of being outdated, I just found it odd to find so many names used on babies that are more commonly found right now on people in their 30's, 40's, etc. And the names listed are nn's instead of more formal names (not sure if that's the baby's formal fn or the nn was listed in the paper). Or maybe some of the parents' names were mixed in. It wasn't clear. For example:
Jeanne
Lisa
Cynthia
Marjorie
Janet
Paulette
Leslie
Lynn
Marion
Eileen
DeborahRon
Lee
Alfred
Leon
Frank
Jeff
Steve
Fred
EdI guess I'm the only one who found that odd. It doesn't really matter, I was just curious. Sorry to come off as rude. I'll have to watch that in the future, apparently.

GIRLS:
Maggy- Like Maggie a lot.
Jeanne- Ok, but kinda dull imo.
January- nms, but too bad.
Gwenn- I love Gwen, but don't like the double 'n'.
Grace- Nice enough.
Carolyn- Dislike it.
Lisa- Like it.

Rosa- Love it.
Antoniette- Ok.
Jennifer Ann- Boring but pretty.
Ranee- Hate the spelling, but love Renee.
Lorraine Ann- Nice enough names, but they don't flow well at all.
Julie Lynn- Same.
Martina- Love it!
Catherine- Love Katherine, but only with the 'K'.
Janet- Hate this name.
Paulette- Tolerable.
Lisa- Like it.
Leslie- Like it.
Lynn- Like it. I think it makes a pretty first name.
Gracemary- Sounds weird to me...the names are nice enough, but not as a hybrid first name.
Marion- Like it alright.
Anibel- Like Annabel/Annabelle a lot, but I really don't care for this spelling.
Eileen- Ok.
Mina- Ok.
Roslyn- Ok.
Ada- LOVE it!
