I'm going to use my amazing psy-chick abilities and (assuming that you're a girl) say that your mom gave you an alternate spelling of the name "Deirdre" when you were born. She'd heard that name somewhere, liked the sound of it, and perhaps wasn't too certain of its spelling. Thus you wound up with a totally unique name (like our visitor Cyndal above).
"Deirdre", according to my Pocket Guide to Irish Names, is "A name of uncertain meaning, perhaps signifying 'fear', perhaps 'one who rages', or perhaps 'broken-hearted one'. It was borne by the heroine of a tragic Irish legend. Two prominent Irish writers have used this legend: W.B. Yeats in his *Deirdre* (1907), and J.M. synge in his *Deirdre of the Sorrows* (1910). It is popular in Ireland today."
