Actually, Kalonimos -- or better yet "kalonymos" -- is a a Greek expression from "kalo-" (meaning, as you pointed out, "fair, lovely etc") and the word "onoma" meaning name (as in the word "homonymous").
Under such circumstances, "Kalman" may in fact mean "Beautiful name" :)
