Except here it's concidered nn for the Russian Katharina. Or so says my baby name book.

But it's only used as a stand alone name nowadays here.

How is Katya pronunced? The same?

I'm curious, because I've often thought of using Katya (pro. kat-tia) as a nick-name for Katarina. I like Kat-yah a bit better.
