Elkin is an ashkenazi jewish matronymic surname, literally "Elka's kin", referring to a matriarch named Elka. So Elkin's parents might have been inspired by both Elkan and the surname

I like Grey a lot, for any gender. It’s probably one of the unisex names I like the most. I know someone with the surname Elkin, it’s not totally my thing but it’s okay.
